Thumb spica splint

Supports the thumb (and sometimes the wrist) to limit painful motion and protect healing structures around the base of the thumb.

Commonly used for

  • Pain at the base of the thumb with pinching or gripping
  • After thumb sprains or strains, as directed by a clinician
  • Symptom flares from arthritis at the CMC joint

Cautions

  • Increasing numbness or tingling in the thumb or index finger
  • Skin redness, breakdown, or pressure points
  • Swelling that makes the splint feel too tight

Often worn during activities that trigger symptoms, or as directed by a clinician.

Care

Keep clean and dry. Check skin for redness after each wear. Loosen if swelling increases.
